Prisoner's Perks / Budluge Video ...

Hi Folks,

This next story was in the Sunday Post yesterday and when I read it I just about blew a gasket - Rob and I are in a household who cannot afford to have the main Sky television channels mentioned in the article and yet it is stated there that the ruddy prisoners held at Her Majesty's pleasure don't have to concern themselves about doing without entertainment.

Have a decco at the facts and tell me what you think...... Personally, I think the patients have taken over the asylum!

Half of Scotland's prisoners are now able to watch satellite television. Prison bosses have now admitted the perk is available to inmates in eight of the country's 15 jails, meaning thousands of murderers, sex offenders and other criminals can tune in to channels including the Crime and Investigation Network, MTV (Music Television) and the Sky Sports channels. The level of convicts enjoying the privilege is around 10 times the figure for prisons in England and Wales and comes only weeks after jail chiefs unveiled plans to spend an extra £70,000 on new televisions. Last night MSPs (Members of Scottish Parliament) and taxpayer groups branded it an outrage at a time when many families can't afford satellite TV.

Bill Aitken, Tory justice spokesman said, "This is yet another illustration of the 'soft touch' Scotland approach loved by Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill. "There's intense anger in communities across the country that criminals who wreaked so much havoc are living high on the hog with a TV service many hard-working people cannot afford. That in itself in an injustice.
Every prison cell in Scotland is now furnished with a TV and stereo system. Two thirds have DVD players or video recorders while dozens more are equipped with hi-tech games consoles. Prisoners in Glenochil, Greenock, Perth, Addiswell, Kilmarnock, Shotts and the Open Estate all have access to Sky subscription channels.....

Mark Wallace, campaigns director of the Taxpayers Alliance said "It's disgusting that convicted criminals are getting a perk most law-abiding families can't afford for themselves. Prison isn't meant to be a jolly. With public finances in the state they are this luxury should be scrapped immediately." A spokesman for the Scottish Prison Service defended the provision of satellite television to convicts. He said "Television and any satellite channels accessed by prisoners in Scotland are *paid for by prisoners themselves*... Access is limited and discretionary - It's monitored by individual governors who can alter or remove it".......

* (I take it the prisoner pays for the Sky from money he earns by doing work at the prison - Make them flippen well earn to pay their keep in ruddy prison and not give them TV's etc).

ARRRGGHHH !!! Flippen Hell ! What in God's name have we come to that this situation can occur! OK folks, I for one am all for committing some great crime where I get sent to prison, our present TV is over 15 years old and we can't afford to renew it ATM .. In prison I would get satellite TV, have DVDs etc... and I don't even need to worry about paying my Electricity, Gas, Rates, Food or aught else - FANTASTICO !!!

OH! sugarolly water - let's have a laugh - to Hell with it...

Cheers from the land of the Tartan and the 'dumplins' who keep their prisoners happy giving them all the perks going ... Love Kate xxx.
